Unanimous and unilateral?

Why is unanimous agreement between all parties and unilateral only from a single party, I would have thought they would mean the same based on the “un” deriving from uno?

google says...unanimous means everyone involved agress - unilateral means someone has made the decision but there might be other who disagree with it but have no power/authority etc...

In Unilateral , uni, means one, the lateral means side, hence one sided

Unanimous comes from the Latin 'uni animus' meaning 'all of one mind' , assuming my memory from 40 years ago is right!
