I'll get flamed for this but its your fault in my opinion, you should manage your finances better so you don't have things like this happen.

My 2p.

So if your father was hospitalised you wouldn't help him with money because it damaged your bank account?

What strong morals and values you have in life, I'm sure you've come far.

It would be advisable to take out a loan in those circumstances or use a credit card, overdraft is possibly the worst idea. So he does have a point.

Wish I'd have thought of that, oh wait, I did. When you run out of options you have to stick with the best 'worst idea' you have. Stop assuming, and stop de-railing, thanks.

I would take other means to raise cash if I needed to do something like that.

You should put as much effort in to your personal finances as you do insults and stop looking for sympathy.

my wife used to have a seperate account to me and her rac was due to go out £12 or summot ?
anyway she only had £10 in her account and she got charged £32 for bouncing the direct debit then £32 for going overdrawn then £32 4 days later as it went into the next month and as there was only £100 a month going into the account it was just crazy they refused to refund any of the charges
when i went in with her and asked how they could refuse her an overdraft for £2 but give her one for £54 because of the charges then £86 was beyond me they wouldnt even let her just have the £32 overdraft fee and not charge for the direct debit its funny how you are allowed an overdraft for bank charges and nothign else

In a nut shell if you g over your overdraft limit , you have to assume the person is either absent minded or is having money difficulties , now in the latter situation is punishing them with a a fine going to help matters... or make there situation worse?? and there fore making the bank more money ??

A lot of the original message has been edited away now, but this grabbed my attention.

So, you couldn't get money by any other means, and you knew you were about to breach the agreed overdraft, you went ahead regardless and took money out that doesn't belong to you without prior arrangement.

You should be thankful it was only £150.

I was always going over my limit by accident, I suck at financial matters (as in I forget, a lot. :o). The bank charged me £5 a day for it (same as £150 a month), like they said their Terms and Conditions. I paid up each time. End of Story.

Should I be writing to the bank and asking for my money back because I forgot about a Direct Debit that was coming up? :p

Why does the OP expect special treatment? You actually knew that you were going to go over, and then did it anyway.
