Unblocking the sink!

Caustic Soda?

Get a bottle of Knock Out or Dambuster from your local plumbing store. Fill your sink up with water (without the plug in) and then pour a cupfull amount of the bottle as close to the plug hole as possible, use a funnel. Wait 20 minutes and then run the water. If it doesn't work try again. Be very carefull with the amount of the bottle you put in, it can get very warm.

By the looks of it, straight out the wall. There is another small pipe that joins up with it before it does.....

And after the wall?

If you take the u-bend off can you try poking a length of hose pipe down it? I'm guessing the other side of the wall it turns another corner - can you take that off as well?

have you even checked the u-bend? you dont mention it and its probably the first thign i would do

I've checked it about 6 weeks ago and there was a minor build up of stuff.

I then poked various long implements down that definitely went further than the u-bend without reaching any blockages....

No it doesn't, not if you're careful with the quantity of it.

£7.99?! Rip-off! All this branded stuff is an atrocious rip off.

OP try caustic soda, trust me  ;).

It's 1L of 90% sulphuric acid and not especially 'branded'. If you can find sulphuric acid for less to do the job instead without the 'branding' then go ahead! :)

After the wall it goes outside... I was thinking that the flat above us may drain down into that as well... But I'm not actually sure. It seems like it might be caustic soda then have to take the u-bend off to poke further... I had Considered this, but then it is a case of waiting until Friday or doing it myself.... Last time i took the u bend off it was a right Pain to get it back on - seal was a bit dodgy...

Looking at the waste pipes under the sink, they look like they've been put in recently. The blockage won't be there. The blockage will be on a bend or a straight piece of pipe. Get a spoon and tap the pipe with the sink filled up. It might loosen it up and shift it.

To clear a blocked drain you can just fill it up with water a bit and then use a cloth or a plunger, but you can do it with a cloth. Just make sure you block the overflow holes and then just keep opening and closing the plug with the cloth, creating a suction. The trick is to never let it get too blocked.

doesnt matter how new the pipework is, some idiot could have thrown fat down the sink..

im still not getting how you think the trap is ok, yes you say you've pushed something down the u bend but what? something like a long screwdriver wont be able to get around the u bend at the bottom...

sinks almost always block up on the bend, they obviously can block up else were if the pipe, say was running uphil..

depending on how cold it is outside, the pipe can also block up with ice.. but it has to be pretty cold for that to happen

LOL, this reminds me of the time i worked at Maccies. We had this black stuff that started like seeping out of the floor in the kitchen it didnt really smell at the start and we just starting to mop it up when WHAM!. This massive plate on the floor in the kitchen just lifed up and a big wave of **** and **** washed all over the kitchen. It turns out someone has flushed a cup lid down the bog that had wedged it self in the pipe and started the buildup of about 5 tons of sewerage, It lifed the damn plate off the floor and that was screwed down with some large bolts. We closed the place pretty sharpish and had to get the enviromental health out before we could open again.
