undelete recovery software

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good undelete/recovery software that you can run off a usb stick (i.e. doesn't need to be installed on a machine) to recovery deleted files that have been permanently deleted/not in recycle bin?

As for recommending it, I have used it a little bit a few years ago and I remember it working

^^ portable version and as Biggler says recurva is pretty good, can take a while though.

Recuva should work fine for just deleted files, but for anything more serious I would recommend:

Easeus Data Recovery:
http://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/free-data-recovery-software.htm

Free version will recover up to 500Mb of files.

I have used it in the past with a corrupt SD card containing someone's wedding photos - recovered the lot and show 100s more that had been deleted ages ago.

Also try Testdisk http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

its free, doesn't need installing and will run from a usb stick. only problem is it will rename all the files it finds.

the important thing is you dont write anything to the disk you need recovering as it will overwrite deleted files.

thanks guys... i managed to find 4 word docs that i needed, but they can be opened by word but have random character. I tried the ms word repair function to no avail. Do you guys know of any ways or tools to try repair the word docs please?
