I think Idlewild are one of the most under-rated bands in the UK and can't really figure out why. They are rarely on TV, I've never seen an Idlewild music video on MTV2 or any other sky music channel. I haven't seen them perform live on TV at a music festival or on a talk show. Scared of the limelight or do people not give a monkeys about them?

My 17 year old nephew likes them which is plenty enough reason for me not to like them

How are you anyway dude :)

Back on topic The Zutons, fantastic band but i suppose they kinda dont count cuz of the ammount of airplay Valerie has been getting, still a fantastic band that not everyones into :)

Idlewild got UBER exposure 6-8 years ago.

My vote's for Skunk Anansie - one of the best British Rock 'n' Roll bands Ev0r.

Never liked them, but more of the same:

Kerbdog, Warrior Soul, Stanford Prison Experiment, Quicksand, Annihilator, and in his day Jeff buckley.

Quicksand and Jeffy-Boy have both got their fair share of exposure (even pre-swimming lessons Buckley).

WOO! BOTCH!

Mínus - Absolutely unbelievable Icelandic band; released two Hardcore albums that should be in any respectable record collection: Hey, Johnny! and Jesus Christ Bobby then followed them up with one of the greatest albums ever made (made an even greater feat by their complete shift in musical style for their third album)....Hálldor Laxness.

Every track is fantastic on that album; get the first-mix version if you can and marvel at some spleen-rupturingly-heavy riffs alongside tight drums and awesome singing. It's soulful, it's melodic...It's great!

I must say I actually quite like Idlewild - got a couple of their albums but I've not listened to them for a while.

I think bands like Porcupine Tree don't get as much publicity as they deserve - fantastic band, difficult to define into a genre. (kind of prog-rock/space-rock)

Totally true, I actually know so much of their stuff but didn't realise who it was until my sister stuck a CD on.

Agreed. Idlewild not only make awesome tunes but also have the lead singer with the best name ever: God bless Roddy Womble and his penchant for knitwear.

Shed 7 were underrated in my opinion, one of the best British bands of the 90s and agreed Skunk Anansie were fantastic.

Supergrass were another band that never really seemed to enjoy the success they should have.

OK, I'm going to approach this from the perspective that the bands must at least have had some kind of success, i.e. bands people will have heard of:

The Charlatans - some great tunes, and IMO could potentially have taken over the mantle from The Stone Roses.

The Goo Goo Dolls - slightly strange choice this, as they are quite famous on the world/internet stage. But ask your average man in the street in Britain to name more than a couple of their tracks and he will struggle. That's quite shocking for a band that has been around as long and made so many good records.

Natalie Imbruglia - Doesn't have the same pull as many top 'rock/pop' female vocalists, but having seen her live, she is genuinely talented. In my view she is easily the equal of the likes of Sheryl Crow or Kelly Clarkson.

Jewel - Truly outstanding singer/songwriter with a beautiful voice; sadly her recent work doesn't really match up to what she did in the 90s. She's not received as much acclaim as say Katie Melua or Joss Stone but is vastly superior.

Third Eye Blind - Everyone knows Semi-charmed Life, but that's probably not even in their top10 tracks. I guess they are regarded as a one-hit wonder with a Spin Doctors sound, when in reality they made quite a diverse range of different, quality songs.

Minus The Bear.

Quality chillout music from ex-members of insanely heavy Dillinger Escape Plan Influencers, Botch.

Everyone's spazzing over Minus The Bear at the moment...

My vote goes to Recover. Great music, just never have seemed to get anywhere :(
