With the rise of air source heat pumps and wet underfloor heating, I’ve seen a number of suppliers advertising underfloor heating and cooling — the ASHP flips and turns into an AC unit when cooling is required.
I understand wet UFH is more efficient than a Central Air style heating system, but does underfloor cooling actually work?
I appreciate that heat rises, so coming from the floor it can heat a room evenly, but with cool air sinking, surely you just end up with a cold floor and the rest of the room stays warm? Not ideal when we have sticky-hot days in the summer.
Apparently these systems are becoming popular in Australia, so I guess they must have some effect, but if you need heating plus A/C, wouldn’t an ASHP and Central Air make more sense?
