Underperforming 5870

My case is p182 with psu bay fan moved up to middle bay blowing across the 5870 on medium setting. Airflow should be good as i have spent time with cable management to ensure minimal clutter.
I am pretty sure it hasnt overheated, as i always monitor my pc temps. Hhighest i seen was 79 and this was stableised around this mark as the fan would kick to 32% speed and bring it down to around the 76 mark. It would then slow down, temmp would creep towards 80 again and repeat.

yeah i checked on benchies it does look like temps are stable, you can go up to about 85 degrees

ok i had a look on the internet for you, a lot of people have had the same problem, it's mainly a result of imature drivers. some ppl have solved the issue by reinstalling windows and by resetting the bios/ updating the bios to.

so i would recommend updating the bios and see what happens

The same problem happens on 3 seperate computers, all high enough spec not to bottleneck the card down to gtx 260 level and under. The two computers not owned by me both got a fresh install of the Ati drivers :(

install the drivers from the CD if the card came with one, reverting back to these might ensure its the new drivers that might be a bit ****.

Hi thought i would update this thread.

I solved the problem. Previous to this problem i had been fiddling around with the anti aliasing options. During this process i had changed an option under the aa tab from box to edge detect.
After messing around i ticked the "use application settings" tab. i also unchecked the "use custom settings". I presumed that this would mean that my card would only run with the settings set in the game, which it did (eg i set 2x and it was, i set 4x and it was etc..) However i did not realise that it would still be using the edge detect aa. I thought that by checking the "use application" it would ignore all the settings under the aa tab. I changed the tab from edge detect back to box and all benchmarks were back to how they should be :D
What has surprised me was that i put the card in 3 different pc's and was still getting the same result. Does this mean that if i change the option in the ccc from box to edge detect it is somehow saved on the card? i cant think of any other way that in the other two pc's with fresh driver and ccc installs, that the card was always running edge detect.

I did suggest that on 22nd Jan :p

haha :) It all comes down to the custom settings and use application settings tab. I thought it made sense that by checking use application settings, and unchecking use custom settings, it would mean i am not forcing anything. I was obviously wrong!
