In a word - yes. Assuming your power steering fluid hasn't gone down just in the last 2 months, this should have been picked up and they should have notified you that your tyres were illegal.

Pads and discs should have also been picked up at the inspection II.

What's the point in paying BMW Dealer prices if they can't even pick up simple things such as low tyres or brakes.

His tyres won't have been illegal 2 months ago but I am surprised they didn't mention brakes, they began moaning about mine a year before they needed doing!

Oh, i thought his Insp II service was 2 months ago.

In that case, yeah tyres wouldn't have been illegal, but brakes would have been getting low.

EDIT: Oh, just seen you did actually mean "2 months" not "12 months". I suspect they were getting very low 2 months ago - low enough that BMW should have said something.

Does sound quite bad that we are charged this much on a "premium" service yet a couple months down the line core componenets need replacing. All they mentioned when I had insp II was that my brake pads were "70% worn", but nothing about anything else :(

Regarding my suspected PAS fluid leak, what would be the best course of action do you guys think? Will it be easy enough to check for leaks personally?

Similar experience at Vauxhall, Was told my rear brakes needed doing.

Got the rear wheel off and had a proper look and they still had a good cm or so of pad material left

I would fill it back up to the max and keep a very close eye on it. It could be a simple leak that just requires something to be tighened, or it could be an expensive something.

To be honest I reckon every M54 powered BMW with hydraulic PAS has a suspected PAS fluid leak - the reservoirs are crap and will seep fluid out either from the bottom of the reservoir where the pipe meets it, or the filler cap itself.

Have a look around the reservoir. If its coming from here just ignore it. Mine has done it ever since I got the car - very slightly. I bought a bottle of fluid to keep it topped up but in 4 years I've only needed to top it up once. Thats how slight the leak usually is.
