Just refitted my CPU to a new shiny mobo and getting some pretty uneven core temps.. up to around 20ºC difference (25% @ 80ºC).

Is this acceptable? I've taken the HSF off and moved the thermal paste around a bit (AS5) and put it back together but to no avail.

Mobo is Asrock Extreme6 & CPU is a 4770k. Cheers

I had the same with mine but after a week it sorted it self out.
But mine was about 15c differance from low to high.
I think the paste needs time to bed in.

Yeah could be, interestingly the temp difference is now down to ~11ºC. Either way I've already reseated the HSF so not sure what else I could do!

I bet you were thinking, "Well here goes nothing, please, please don't break" while holding your breath and crossing everything when you did that. :D Did it let go as easy as it looked?

I just haven't got the guts to do that to mine. I had a go with a blade but there is absolutely no gap at all between the IHS and pcb on my cpu so there's no way I can work the blade in without damaging the pcb. Bloody annoying too as I have 12 degrees difference between the coolest core and the other 3!!
