Unexpected Order Cancellation Email

Evening all,

I by some miracle managed to place an order for a 3060 that came in stock on the UKOC website earlier today. Payment went through, the order showed as "Order received - not yet shipped" on my account and everything seemed hunky-dory.

At around 12:30am, I received an email saying that my order had been cancelled with no further explanation.

I'm not really up to speed with the GPU ordering situation - other than knowing there's a worldwide shortage, that I've got my sister's 18th birthday coming up in 3 weeks and the GPU is the last component!!

Is anyone aware of UKOC cancelling orders due to over-ordering for the available stock, or whether it's just a system & email error and my order should still be okay?

I'd much prefer to post in here than take space in what I imagine are already very busy phone lines first thing in the morning.

Many thanks.

Bummer. How disappointing. I thought I’d pulled off a miracle and actually managed to order one from a retailer! :( I fully understand not wanting to give orders to bots - it’s just a real shame when you get bundled into the same pen when trying to build a birthday present / PC for someone that needs it for her Gaming Design studies at collage.

Thanks for quoting the post from the staff, heatonpkmassive.

I managed to buy a 3070 yesterday in the chaos, other than being slow af and the occasional 304 the site looked like it was working normally. I was gutted when I got the cancellation email, my trusty 980ti went out with a pop and the smell of magic smoke two days ago, couldn't have happened at a worse time. I hope we're both successful in our continued search

Amazing the number of new accounts popping up that are desperate for cards.

Tbh if it's for a uni student who needs it for their work. Surely a laptop is a far better option?

They can take it with them to the library, etc or cafe and they don't have to find a gpu to buy as it's already in the machine.

Not really sure what you're trying to imply? I think you'll find a lot of these new accounts are people caught up in the error that occurred yesterday. Would rather chat with people who went through a similar situation rather than going on Google, Trustpilot, etc. and leaving a negative review. Seems like the better choice does it not?

A) She'll be using software like Unreal Engine, Unity, etc. at home & weekends and can use the college computers when she's on campus. B) I've no experience with game development software, but I certainly wouldn't want to be developing it on a laptop? C) The rest of the PC is already built.

Why not? Laptops are far more versatile. You can dock them to use on larger screens and with mouse and keyboards, etc.

I just said it's interesting that there is so many new members.

Well thanks for the suggestion but it's up to her really. It's an 18th Birthday / College present and so it's up to her what she wants - and chose her brother to build a PC.

Not really sure how it's interesting but okay.

Well I would have told her there is currently a gpu shortage and therefore a laptop will be much easier to source.

Good luck with your search in getting a gpu now. If required for uni I'd just pony up and buy from eBay. You could be waiting forever to find one in stock unless you're after anything.

Yeah I only came searching on the forums today after I got the cancellation email to try and figure out what happened, had no reason to prior, my 5600X came a few weeks ago no problems even to the outer hebrides. Until my GPU blew up I was somewhat patiently waiting for the supply issues to calm down before finishing my rig upgrade.

I totally understand why your sister wouldn't want a laptop, developing anything on a laptop isn't fun

Thanks. I've seen the staff mention that they're releasing some to the general riffraff on Monday so I'll try then before lining a scalpers pockets.

Sorry to hear about your current GPU. It's crazy how long this shortage has been going on - and doesn't seem to be letting up. Best of luck with your search for your new GPU. :)
