I am completely lost as to why this may happen but ever since i built my PC my computer has had a kernel power error (event ID 41) at a random time each day between august and now. There are a few days where it hasn't happened but its very strange behaviour, the pc will reboot and then continue as if nothing has happened.

I suspect it may be the pc trying to enter sleep mode or similar and something going wrong but have no proof of this.

Running windows 10 with all the latest updates and it has never happened whilst I've been using it to the best of my knowledge.

Any opinions ?

Asus X99-S mobo with a 5930k sitting happily at 4.5Ghz and a EVGA G2 850W power supply unit. temps are good and the system is stable bar this attention seeking reboot issue.

error 41 just means the pc shutdown unexpectedly

how much ram are you running? could be the idle state? or are you using fixed cpu voltage ie not downclocking at idle?

you can also try a lower llc and a higher cpu offset voltage that should give you a slightly higher idle cpu v without adding any extra cpu voltage when at load

Wazza300: Using 16GB of ram and using a fixed cpu voltage with no underclocking at idle. Will look at different overclocking settings if i cant make any more progress.

Bioshockeruk: have tried sleep and then awaken with no problems, currently machine has been running for 25 hours and 48 minutes with no hiccups.

left on the list is memtest and then i have run out of ideas, thanks for the help so far :)

Hi, I would also suggest to set windows to full performance in case it is in energy saving mode and also disable screen saver options in windows. I would also suggest to run a virus scan. Did you already made a clean install of windows since setup or is it still the first install on that system? Have you already switch the PSU between ECO mode and fan on if that makes any difference?
Which sleep mode did you use?

List all of your hardware, in case you have an SSD or device with a known problem/fix. Crucial M4 SSD for example.

I would also run memtest

http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

Either use the USB installer or download an ISO and burn to a CD using IMGBurn, then boot from that USB/CD.

you might need a touch more memory controller voltage (imc) if your running 16gb

download and run whocrashed see if that picks anything up as to the cause of it

Windows update triggering a reboot, but then not performing it correctly? I also agree about checking the sleep mode stuff. It could also be a drive going into low power and not recovering.

Have you ever witnessed the crash? That would be a good start to get an idea of whats happening. If its never crashed during use, it definitely points to a sleep/driver/windows thing.

You could also turn the PC off when not in use to save power, you know, environment and all that!
