Uni advice :)

As far as I'm aware the way to increase the amount of UCAS points you have is to sit more courses, bear in mind though that it's normally going to be viewed more favourably if you have say 4 results giving you 300 points than having 12 courses giving you 300 points. I believe that some classes such as Citizenship aren't highly regarded by many universities and hence will be discounted.

As Judgeneo says though what have you done and what would you like to do?

Based on this, I'd apply for a degree which also incorporates a foundation year before the actual degree starts (this is NOT a foundation degree, just 1 year access then the 3 year Bsc).

If you did that, you'd then have your tuition fee's capped for the full length of your course even though you wouldn't start your degree until 2012, when the fees go up!

In these circumstances your best bet is to call the head of the department you are interested in, have a personal chat, say how much you want to study there etc etc, and with any luck you might wangle an interview.

Then its up to you to do the biz after that.

UCAS is a joke tbh.

I called up my Uni, said I hated the Uni I was already at, and that it was rubbish, also said how much I wanted to study at Hull, and how I had heard such good things.

Guy was impressed, said they would give me an interview, and to apply though UCAS just as a formality so I was in the system so to speak.

Got the interview, and got into the course I wanted.

So it just shows you, it pays to use your initiative.

All they have to go on with a UCAS application is some drivel on a form. At least on the phone you can articulate yourself and show your personality far, far better.

Give it a go, what you got to lose??

Sound's similar to my experience 10 years ago. Finished A-Levels, didn't care, got bad grades (200 ucas points).

Decided I wanted to go 2 years later. Applied to 6 uni's, with a detailed covering letter + highlighting industry experience.

Got accepted by all 6, including Loughborough. Ended up going to Staffordshire due to the course. Had a great 4 years and ended up with a first.

Go for it, it can be done!

What course did you study at Staffordshire? Going to Staffordshire Uni this year to study music technology. What did you think of the uni?

I needed 300 points to get on my course but only got 240 (BCD) and still got on. It's not just about your grade, extra curricular activities can be highly beneficial.
