Hi all! I'll be buying a laptop soon ahead of going to university, so I'm looking for something dependable and less than £500. I'm not so concerned about speed, but I need it to have a good battery life, and be stable as a stable thing. :D

I'm leaning towards Asus but only because I know of their motherboard reputation, not that I've ever owned one myself! [DFI here]

Thinking of getting a PDA-phone with it as well - would it be worth it? I already use a WM2003 phone and couldn't live without it, so would I be gaining anything? Edit - budgeting up to another £200 for the PDA-Phone

One last thing - are all the OCUK laptops including OS in the price? I already own Vista, so I don't really want to buy it again! :)

Cheers all!

Dell Vostro 1400 or 1500 are good ones. The 1400 is 14", which makes it a good size for lugging to and from Uni/the library (talking from experience here; I have a 630m).

I was looking at them myself actually, but once you add VAT etc they get quite expensive, looking at a Fujitsu Seimens myself, AMILO Li1718, quite a good spec for 450 quid

I've got a Dell Dimension 1520. Lovely little machine. Get the larger battery and you'll be able to squeeze around 5.5hrs of battery life out of it!!
