Uni laptop spec thread...thing

Well I need the 1440*900 screen to get lots of code on the screen when programming, 1280*800 isn't enough for developement IMO. The extra desktop space from 1440*900 will be nice too, plus more screen space for web browsing. The higher res will give you a little lower framerates in games though unless you run with borders or stretched. I haven't seen either screen in the flesh so couldn't comment about their quality (my vostro 1500 should be here tomorrow).

Dell keep extending those curent offers, twice they were due to end but continued.

TBH the Acer sounds like a good deal if you're going to use the HD-DVD drive (if not the vostro is cheaper and better specced), but Acer have a reputation for poor build quality and CS (yes even worse CS than Dell). Also I think the Acer is the 8600 GS which is slower than the GT in the vostro.

I'll probably go for the 1280*800 as I won't be doing any coding, more gaming lol. And it saves £20 for what ever else. Anyone else got any opinions?

Yeah I'm gonna leave it until tomorrow and see if they chuck anything else on.

I doubt I'll use the HD-DVD drive, the only other real advantage it has is an HDMI port so I s'pose if I came across any tv shows accidentally on my computer in HD they'd come out better quality when hooked up to my TV.
