Uni people - Desktop or laptop?

Don't get me wrong as I love desktops. However since starting in my current job 3 years ago and having a laptop it's swayed me a bit as they are so convenient. But for heavy stuff and for better graphics, power and viewability then desktop.

Just depends on if you could live with it being stationary and not have the freedom to pack your work in a laptop bag and do it somewhere else

DO NOT BUY A MAC.

For a start in my engineering building the IT people would just say go away if you came to them with a mac with any issues. Secondly absolutely no engineering software works on Macs (don't put Windows on a Mac as this defeats the point of spending the extra on the Mac).

Im bringing... 650D Desktop, x2 monitors, peripherals, laptop and a server to uni this year.

Take both if you can, best of both worlds then.

A desktop AND a server to uni?

What on earth do you need a server for. I can see you'll be spending your time wisely :D

Coming from someone who has had a laptop & desktop at UNI I preferred my desktop all the way. Much better to work and and much less distractions, pen/paper for notes and AWAY!

I sure hope this A4 lined paper refill pad can compile Java.

In all seriousness I'm taking my netbook up. I plan to be very territorial over the library computers.

Oh god, take up a Desktop...

I took my laptop up in my first year... I then realised that all you actually needed for lectures/seminars was a pad of paper and a pen, and that the laptop wasn't particularly fond of all those games you like to play when you're supposed to be working... By Christmas I took up a desktop. Didn't turn my laptop on for the rest of the year..
