Just a quick one really.

Posting on behalf of a mate who isnt doing so well at uni to say the least.

What happens if you dont pass your 1st year? Can you re do assessments? Or is it another £3000 out the bank?

Cheers

If you fail a module, you are normally given the option to resit, however, the maximum resit mark is 40%. If you still fail any modules after resits, you'd have to retake the year which is normally £3K depending on the University.

I'm going to guess that if he/she isn't motivated enough to read the uni's retake policy, they probably won't be up to working for retakes.

If its your first year then they are fairly leniant. I was told my course was as followed.

I had to get 100points to pass the year instantly.
If you were between 90-100 (bascially 1 assignment failure) you could retake the bit you failed over the summer, if your were 80-90 (2 failures) then you were assessed and allowed to retake. 70-80 (3 failures) fail.
I didnt have exams, solely coursework assignments.

Some guys on my course didn't meet the required number of points in first year. They had to do a fair chunk of work (apparently) over Summer.

They're still here now for some reason so I suppose it worked. Your friend might have that option.

:O Nice. Well, I say that, but I imagine you constantly have coursework. I have at least one formal report a week for each module (x6!) plus whatever other lab work I have to write up etc. I couldn't live with more than that.

Its not massively heavy, i dont know how to compare it to exam based courses.
Im doing photography so i end up spending hours on end in darkrooms, and on photoshop.
Ive had 3 assignments, a presentations and a literature review to hand in the first term, i expect it to get worse. Currently working on a research proposal for my dissertation. (you'd cry if you knew how few words that was)

In your case, I'd say it would be ideal. Having exams for a practical course as it were, would be insane.

Failed my first year, did 3 resits.
Failed my second year, did 2 resits.
Failed my third year, was meant to do 3 resits but got a job instead and kind of forgot.

It's worked pretty well so far.
