Right-o,

Here goes, i failed my dissertation :rolleyes:

so i resat it, its 40% to pass, yes i know im rubbish, so i was told 35-40% is compensateable...

but there not sure that if they take it to exam board, if they will say straight fail it, or compensate it and pass it?

anyone have an experience on this?

I work at a Uni.

They might condone failure. We probably would since it's a narrow margin. It would be up to the disgression of the Exam Board though.

Have you failed other modules? If it's just your Dissertation then we would be more likely to condone failure.

failed no other modules, what does condone failure mean fella, can you explain?

Tbh, i think that will just be classed as a fail. Depends on the rest of your work I think. If all your other work was significantly higher, or if it was 39% then it may be raised to a pass, but 37% is some way off tbh.

all my other work is in the 60-70%

It means they allow you to pass the year (in this case, your degree) with a failed module. Different Universities will have different terms, that's just what we call it. If you were at our uni, with that average, then there would be almost certainly no issue. They would let you progress as your average is very good, and your fail was less than 5%.

Messiah Khan is probably right, I doubt they'd bump the grade up, unless it was <1%. They may well allow you to get your degree without too harsh a penalty, although the fail would still appear on your transcript/marks statement.

Im currently doing resits ... got exams next week, this could end up happening to me like fail the resit have a bad feeling.

is only 3% off a pass though which is a pain in the ass, i saw a lot of people on results day who had 35% mark as there dissertation mark, and where compensated to to 40% pass mark, who had worse averages than me.

I would have thought that it depended on how much you missed out by the first time though. They might have got worse marks on "there" dissertations, but first time. Good luck with it. Hopefully you'll be OK with your high average.

Congrats! Always a pain when stuff comes down to such things.

I also did pretty poorly on my degree this year, just scrapped a pass, was disappointed with the result but oh well, got an overall pass. :)

Finished your degree? is a pass = 2.2?

Slightly more complex prince;

it goes;

First Class Honours (1)
Second Class First Division Honours (2:1),
Second Class Second Division Honours (2:2)
Third Class Honours (3)
Ordinary Degree "Pass" (without honours)
Certificate of Education or similar (aka. you paid us money, so we'll give you some paper)

Then a fail below that I suppose.

However below a 2:2 and it is generally of extremely limited use.

Congrats Neoni, glad you got there in the end :-)
