Had a few problems last year - won't go into any details but I despite hanging around at Uni I missed group projects and deadlines at the end of the year with a total of around 4 modules failed. I did initially contact the uni about the issues etc but due to financial problems threw myself into work at the beginning of summer and haven't paid much attention. I've contacted my course leader but have yet to hear anything back.

Do you reckon it'll be possible to resit the failed modules or perhaps the entire year? I did receive a letter about the modules, telling me I'd have to resit etc.

edit: I also phoned student services who said contact the course leader, which I have but to no avail.

What year are you in? In my first and 2nd years I was allowed to re-sit as many as necessary, but was only able to get a maxium of a third for those particular modules.

If your university is anything like mine you have to repeat all modules failed to continue to the next year.

Whether or not you suffer any penalty for this is down to your uni.

Don't confuse a re-sit and a repeat.

It depends on the uni and the department within that uni. I'm taking Computer Science and if you fail more than 1 module, you fail the year. You aren't even guaranteed a place for next year if this happens.

However my friend who took biomedical science failed all his modules and he somehow blagged them to let him back to take a different course.

All you can do is contact your head of department mate.

I have no issue with penalties, frankly. Providing I have at least the chance to resit the year. I really need to progress onto third year! Quite gutted about the whole situation.

With resits, do you attend the same modules the following year?

I failed one module of my second year when I was at uni.

I had to retake that one module the following year.

Worst thing is losing connection with all the other people you were at uni with as they gone on to the third year and then finish.

But I think it will be still possible as long as you can afford that extra year to retake (you might not be eligible for grants etc for the retake year - if they still have them!)

If it's course work, you're probably too late to get it completed for the start of semester next month. Resit exams need to be applied for as you've got to pay for them unless you have a medical certificate, so you may not be able to redo any exams you failed.

This sort of thing really needs to be sorted out at the time as there's a lot that can be done by student services if you let them know before deadlines. You should be able to resit the whole year, that would be arranged through your mentor/DoS.

Thanks for the help guys. :) Leaving for work now but I'll get on the phone tomorrow morning.

If resitting, I presume there would be no financial help? Course fees or student loan?

The SLC usually offer up to four years without question providing you can prove you're enrolled somewhere. If your course is normally three years, you should be fine. But, if you are studying in Scotland, I'm not sure how this changes things (if at all).
