Cut to the chase, just graduated from my uni did really well in summer but made a bit of a mess of one of my exams in the january. Because of my overall performance throughout the degree I have been granted a pass by compensation. My question is would allowing one topic to be passed in this way be adverse to my degree? Sorry for the hazy question here guys, but im guessing someone has first hand experience of this.

If it helps my degree is in law but I am not persuing my degree any further academically, ( i.e solicitor or barrister etc)instead I have a few interviews for jobs lined up. So will it effect me substantially ? Re

It depends on how your university scores the degree, is it the best 3/4 of your results or something similar? It shouldn't matter unless you really want to list each individual module results that you had one condoned.

//edit if it matters I had a module condoned on a degree that I started before I changed to law, it hasn't affected anything I've done since except that I can say I passed the first year.

This year my scores where, 53, 55, 62, 60, 60 and then 35 !!!! so two 2,2's, three 2,1s and a fail. The compensation is to bump the 35 to 40 without having to resit :S

Still depends on the weighting(s) through the years but I'd just say I passed with a 2:1 or 2:2 as appropriate, if asked then obviously you say what you got but otherwise there's no need to go into great detail. Oh and congratulations on graduating.

Compensation may mean you are awarded a pass on that module but still retain a score of 35 (my uni did this)

I believe this is what they are doing. Ill have to get in contact with the uni to double check all this :) thanks for replies all.

They just weigh them all in at the end to see what your degree mark is. So passing is perfectly fine if you do well in other modules, but too many fails will just drag it down.
