I don't know if I'm posting this in the right place but I get this really odd feeling my grades arn't going to be up to it for uni.

So was wondering what people normally did when they didn't get the grades, I know there's clearing and that but I was more wondering about how they BEGGED their unis.

In case anyones interested I hope to go off to Aston :) to do Computing For Business, any advice would be nice, and a mod can move this if need be (not that me saying they would change anything >.<).

Could always speak to the Uni admissions tutor about your concerns - at the end of the day they are only human and might give you some general advice or what they would do to help someone who hasnt met their offer. Or perhaps the careers teacher since no doubt you arent the first...

Seeing them in person can help a great deal if you are close to the grades required. Just ask for an interview and they may be willing to meet.

I'm the oldest so can't ask myself for advice lol.

I'll contact some family friends this weekend, I believe I could be maybe 40 UCAS points off which is what's driving me up the damn wall >.<.

Going to Aston may not be that easy as I live in Canvey (Essex yes that little Island) but I might be able to try something. Oh well Atleast Middlesex is my backup.

Mine were online today, got a 2:2 with honours :/ I deserve it really. Did my dissy + 3 x 3000 word final assignments in one week. :) What I want to do does not really need my degree though.

edit : Completly miss read the topic :p

Hell yeah I'm worried.

I know I nailed maths and chemistry, but physics is a slight worry. I took all 3 exams on 2 days, and I can remember a few places where I went wrong.

Still, no point worrying...

You can always go through clearing and get a place on another course if you don't get accepted. When results come out see if you can get in contact with the uni first and just ask them for a place saying that you were only so many points off.

Is 40 points a lot - sorry not used to the new system - sounds to me missing it by 2 grades on one of your A levels (or whatever they are called now :p) - not that bad - do you know how subscribed this course is?

Anyway of finding out if the course needed to be put in clearing last year or ever?

How do I check clearing for last year? Well it's about one A-level I guess so I hope what I have is fine I've actually got 240 accordding to my 6th form so maybe they'll be gentle.

Is there any way of finding this out?

I cant see why Admissions Tutors or the Head of Departments wouldnt be able to provide that information - doubt its on the web but I knew when I went to Uni how many people I beat to my place (both by application and by interview).

Its probably in the public domain but I wouldnt have any idea where to look for it...

I think this kinda situation calls for a well-thought out letter ;)

unless your going for a very sort after course then 40points is nothing as long as your personal statment was decent, i know people who were 40,80 and 100 and something off what they needed that all got in to their first choice course and uni

Canvey? ...LOL.

Seriously though, I'd suggest e-mailing the head of the department/school for your course or another relevant person with authority in such areas and ask them personally. You'll be surprised how far a little rapport can get you :)

Southampton uni pretty much told me where to stick it. Wouldn't speak to me much at all, unless I had the points :(

if you miss out then the key to clearing to to look beyond your ideal courses. there is always the option to change whilst in a uni, plus what with module options you might end up only having to do some core requisites for the degree.

for example i know last year that york for management had numerous clearing places. considering york is a top uni, the grades required were low - but the course is not that highly regarded as others at york.

you might not have much wiggle room these days with your uni since they heavilly offer more places. coupled with the fact that most unis now have higher requirments (even the lesser ones) and more people getting their grades, you might be unfortunate.

As others have said, ring them up and/or go for an interview. Depending on the course and how many places there are they might let you in even with the lower results because they want to fill the places- afterall, filling places = money for the uni.

Good luck anyway, hope you do well!
