As someone who owns a gym, yes read your terms and conditions and honestly, depending on the type of place it is, just go down there in person and explain you want to cancel and ask (nicely) not to pay the fee. Being pleasant and nice goes a lot further than a highly strung customer

As someone who owns a gym would you not feel a right wanger actually considering charging someone a cancellation fee once they're outside of their initial 12 month contract though?
If it was mid contract then fair enough I can almost see why an owner may want that in the contract.
Oh yes definitely, I don't have any of those rules and stipulations at my club. Treat people fairly and they'll stick by you!
I was just referring to actually going down there and talking to them about it, much more of a chance.
However you do get all kinds of customers with bizarre requests, 'I haven't used the club in 6 months, can I get a refund?'

Yeah that's honestly a bizarre one. Most places have maybe a 30 day cancellation period (where you still obviously get to use the club). Or, charge you if you had signed up for a term agreement and you wanted to break that agreement.
He should be able to explain he held up his part of the agreement and fulfilled everything.

Years ago when Virgin Gym opened in Birmingham its was £45 for a 12 month contract or £65 for rolling.....that's how they got you.
is not local then they must cancel your contract no fee etc...
