Whose to say they haven't been dedicating a large chunk of their time to next year now? Mercedes as a company wants to be winning and getting Hamilton is one part of the equation.

Indeed. That gap is staying very still though. Hamilton saving fuel and managing the gap? He probably used a lot of the fastest engine mode whilst behind Vettel.

This. Mercedes haven't bought one of the best drivers on the grid to have him trundle around in the mid field.

Also I honestly think Lewis knew he was going to win this race, he had so much confidence and coolness leading into it.
