Hi guys,

we now have 4 remotes on the sofa and its getting a bit crazy (tv,sky,ps3,av reciever) so am looking at universal remotes...

the logitech 525 looks pretty sweet and is affordable, but would i be able to replace all of these remotes and would it be easy to do? i've never used a ** so dont really know what the score is... could anyone enlighten me?

i'm thinking i'm not going to be able to replace the blu-ray ps3 remote but if i can just get down to 2 i'd be happy...

525 is excellent.

Easy to set up and easy to use, controls my : TV,SKY+,AMP,DVD + XBOX

Set up is easy through logitech set up software and a USB lead :)

I'm told that a mainstream high st retailer sells a plug in USB stick that facilitates the use of a standard infra red remote with a PS3. Cost is a tenner.

oh so its not set up via "learning" the IR signals?

to me setting up via the PC seems more swanky, but the one that learns the signals (the 555 i think) is more money... weird...

Yea the 525 is great, me and my dad both have one and a breeze to set up once you get going, a bargain for just over 30 quid aswell!

so can you do things like "watch tv" which will put the telly, sky and av reciever on and in the right modes, or do you just switch between it controlling the telly, sky+ box and av reciever seperately?

(ordered the 525 btw, £34.99 ;) - barry-argain :D)

yes it has macros.

When i press Watch TV it turns TV on, then sky and amp.
Then uses the volume to control amp and other buttons for sky controls.

It can learn via IR too.

oooooo this sounds great... my missus will have mixed feelings, a bit peeved that i spent £35 on a remote, then happy that we no longer have to have all the gadgetry on the sofa :D

so if it can do ir learning, what has the 555 got to offer for the extra cash i couldn't work it out? (the 525 looks better too i reckon)

i am curious though, how will it cope with things like the fact that on my samsung telly, to change input between the av receiver and the hdmi input (had to go straight from the ps3 to the telly cuz my amp doesnt have hdmi), you have to use the "source" button and rotate through to the right one, there isnt a dedicated button for the individual inputs...

how would it work out how to get to the hdmi input for example?

it asks you in the software step by step questions.

When setting up WATCH TV, is you tv input on AV1, 2 3 etc

So when you press the button it selects the correct AV input ;)

My harmony one happily switches to the correct input even though my tv remote cycles through inputs like yours rather than a button for each input. There will likely be a discreet code available which the harmony will use, your tv maker just didnt include it on their remote.

Yup, my TV cycles but there is an option to jump straight to the right AV ;)

For buttons that arent covered by the 'hard buttons' there is the lcd screen, basically 4 buttons, 2 either side of the screen and each one controls a different action of your original remote if that makes sense, dont think it did lol!
