Anyone used one before along side a heatsink?

Since lightning and matrix 7970 waterblocks are pretty much non-existent anymore, how does a heatsink and universal water block perform?

been using universal blocks for years.
Lower temps than a full cover -
But if you have have a card with hot Vreg heatsinks and direct airflow is a must.
Ram doesn't usually need heatsinks - but many use them to complete the look.

I only use universal blocks on my cards, apart from the GTX480 that i got a EK full cover block for £16 second hand. :D I just don't see the point of buying expensive blocks ever time you buy a new card. With a universal block just unbolt it from the old card and clean the tim off, apply tim to the new card and fit the block. No need to drain the loop or anything. The vrm's are the biggest problem and sometimes need to have something serious on them. I have tried memory heatsinks on them before and can usually get away with them but a couple of cards i have had, 5850 @1Ghz/1250mhz and the 480 i have had to make a heatsink for them. I am currently in the process of making a heatsink for the vrm's of my 780 FTW. I got a copper 1u server heatsink off the bay for £4 delivered and am cutting it to fit the vrm area. It should do the job nicely. I can finally see what this card can do then. Heatsinks are more than enough for the ram as they barely get warm.
