University Computing Course

What you described(G403) sounds just like the comp sci course I do at Durham(G400). The first year involved some complex maths, but nothing overly difficult if you put your mind to it. It may seem daunting at first but in the 2nd year everything makes a lot more sense when you understand the maths.

Well Kent CS had two maths modules, but they were aimed at people who never did A-Level Maths and were brutally easy, but I dont know if they are still there now.

I did CS at Newcastle. It did have a couple of maths modules, but theyre really not that bad. It did cover software development, web programming, databases, algorithms and data structures, operating systems, game development, networks etc. One thing, make sure you like the place your uni is in..you have to live there for 3 years!

I think G403 might just be the G400 course but with a work placement for the third year. Not 100% sure on that though.

Thanks for the replies and the comments on the maths guys, I'll have a closer look at the computer science courses.

Got Derby, Kent, Bournemouth, Aberystwyth and Southampton. All of them are temporary at the moment, I will do more research and probably submit my UCAS app tomorrow.

Thanks again for the replies on the course and the maths. I'll just have to get stuck in with the maths and put my mind to it, it'll be worth it :)

What's the deadline for UCAS applications? I'd strongly suggest visiting the Universities before putting in your UCAS application if you haven't already!

I've been to Derby and Kent last year when my brother was looking and quite like the accommodation/area of both of them. Going to see Bournemouth, and Derby again within the next few weeks.

I'm a bit late with my UCAS :( - deadline is 1st December.

I did Applied IT at Staffs, it was a decent course with good lecturers.

The course involves Software Dev, UI design & modelling, Database systems, some pretty generic crap modules, two media modules in Flash and Director and then your own choice of modules in the 2/3 years + your FYP.

I finished my Computer Studies degree at Derby a few years ago, got no idea about all these G codes but all Computing undergrades had to do a maths module in the first semester of the first year, it was pretty easy and after that was never mentioned again. Could all have changed of course.
