Hey,

Currently I'm a second year undergraduate student studying AI at University of Manchester.. and I've got to the point in my degree programme where I need to be applying for 'years in industry' or placements/internships.

So my question is, are there any companies out there that any of you have had any experience with which you'd recommend getting in contact with or applying for? I'm looking for both US AND UK opportunities.

My main areas of interest within AI are natural language processing incorporating machine learning techniques, AI in distributed systems, HCI/multi modal interaction and automated reasoning.

Thanks, any recommendations/suggestions much appreciated!

Perhaps take a look at some big games companies, AI is quite a big responsibility in the gaming world.

Thanks for the replies, going to look into BAE systems.. not really as interested in Game AI to be honest.

there should be shedloads of leads available through the placement coordinator for your course

You'd think so, but unfortunately not for internships/placements in the US (which is predominantly what I'm aiming for) the support for this is very limited.. with no partnerships in place!

They pretty much said they'd support me if I was able to sort everything out; but unfortunatley they had no leads for me to follow.

ah, sorry I missed the US part, having been an IE student at Manchester and employing one last year I know the UK support is good. My department has strong links with a few big US Unis but that's more from an academic/residential infrastructure perspective.
