Works pretty much the same in either OS. What sort of stuff you want to know? I've been on Solaris in work for the last year and doing a bit of scripting.
Use whatever they are using on the course, it will just make life easier if you are starting out with either one
Bash is bash however, so it should be fine
LPIC-1 study guide. It's aimed at teaching you things you need to know for their cerification, but it covers all sorts of linux stuff whilst remaining vendor neutral.
