Unknown caller / Withheld numbers - Do u answer?

Never.

If it's important, they can use voicemail or send a text.

It could be work ringing to ask me to do overtime - I don't do overtime because they don't ever pay it properly.
It could be telesales - I don't want to talk to them so they can sod off

If it is a friend or family member, they always leave a message. I've never had any problems.

I really don't understand this. If you don't know who it is, stop being paranoid, answer the phone and find out.

I don't understand people that don't answer the phone. It's not like you get wierdos and sales men calling you every other week so why make a big deal about it. I always answer the phone. I wonder do you also apply this logic to your mobile?

i'd assume most people are actually talking about mobile phones

I try not to, having been the victim of malicious phone calls a few years ago. But more often than not I have to..

Loads of PABX systems prevent a caller ID being sent, so you could easily be missing calls from friends + family at their workplaces.

Tbh you'd have to be a bit of a paranoid nutter to not answer.

i answer, some of my friends with hold it automatically too :confused:

but if its a prank then i just let them waste there money for a bit then hang up

cant really see any reason not to, if its malicious and they keep doing it dont answer but if its genuine and once in a while its not bad at all.

I've had plenty of legitimate calls from unknown numbers.

All my friends and families have mobile phones. If it is important they would leave a voice/text message or use their mobile

As with Penski my phone is always on so it's not as if I wont see a message right away.

With the home phone none of us answer a witheld number. We have an answer machine service with BT so if it was important - leave a message. I think my mum gets sent a message to her phone when a message has been left on the answer machine. She can then access said message from her phone.

It really isn't very hard to get hold of someone in my house

Withheld numbers no, I generally do not answer them, if it is someone important they will ring back. In my experience withheld numbers = sales people. :rolleyes:

I never answer withheld numbers, the only reason someone would be rining with a withheld number is for non-legitimate purposes.

I answer any call to my mobile unless I am asleep, in class or otherwise on the phone. The most likely sources of unknown/withheld numbers for me is either a bank or a company that I have ordered with and I want to know about either of them, if it isn't a call I want then I can easily and politely tell them that I'm not interested so I don't really see why people wouldn't answer in most circumstances.

At the moment, yes. keep getting this company phoning up 6+ times a day for the last 6 weeks. For someone called Derick. No Derick at this number, Obviously some sort of call center as you get an electronic click when you awnser then a human about 5secs later.
They won't tell me the company name.
They just say does this number mean anything.
I go no.
They say sorry for your time, we wont phone you again..

Then they phone back. Asking them hasn't helped, shouting at them haven't helped. So I've just been pressing reject for the past 3 days.

Why the hell wont you answer your phone..

You will not have any sympathy from me or many other people on here if you was called on your phone to tell you your mother, father, wife, husband etc was in grave danger due to having an accident or even being mugged and generaly having somthing horrible happen to them. All because your are obnoxious self centered little kids,

"whos that calling me, cant recognise the number must be a call center or sumfing. Sod it" presses the red button.

Yes you will get some sort of business calling you. HANG UP.

If i get a call on my mobile and it comes up as some random number I dont know or number withheld I automatically think, " oh! whos this. Hope my missus is ok."

My missus drives 120 miles a day on major roads anything could happen. If your missus, wife etc did this wouldnt you be inclined to answer the phone incase its the police calling you telling you what happened. Could you live with yourself if you found out for some reason, you waiting for them to leave a message ( voice mail) telling you what happened to you loved one only to find oyu those 2 minutes for them to leave a message and you to listen to it could have saved you loved ones life....
I for one could not live with my self.

You people, not all of you, need to sort out your priorities on life. Not answer phone cos you dont know the number or answer the phone cos your mum is dying? you make me sick.

What are you talking about? We are talking about people who withold their number or whos number is recognized as unknown. That certainly wouldn't be the case with the police or any legitimate caller. We can't all waste our time with every prank caller and company that witholds their number.
