this from another fourum.
One of the guys came to me yesterday with a CPU which I've never seen before. It's 45mm x 45mm and it looks old. It bears Intels name on it (actually the top of the processor says "Intel Confidential QBCB"). Which was curious in itself. Now the thing that really sticks out is on the pin side of the CPU, I've not counted them, but the same guy that brought the chip to me got about a 3rd of the way counting them before giving up and he says he got to over 450pins, that would suggest this CPU has in excess of 1300 pins.

I admit I've not kept up with developments or announcements, but the guy who gave this chip to me has excitedly proclaimed that he thinks we have around 10 socket 1366 CPU's probably prototypes.

Any thoughts on this?

Intel make more than just PC CPU's. It could be one of a lot of things.

However, if it is a sample that's found its way somewhere it shoudnt, expect a call from a crack set of coloufull clean suit wearing Intel solicitors!

PK!

wow looks mad, but watchout for men in suits and black sunglasses with ear pieces now that they know u have it :p send one this way hehe :D

why did that dufus try and count all the pins, and not just count along the sides and multiplym, then subtract the middle? -.-

Counted up:

Edges are 41x43 = 1763

minus middle section:

21x17 = 357

So...

1763 - 357 = 1406

minus random missing edge contacts:

= 40

Total = 1366

You're kidding i hope? :) I've owned many ES cpus sometimes quite a ways from the retail product and spoken publicly and bought them publically without any hassle from anyone.
