Unknown Device under Processors

Hi i having a few problems with my new pc
in the Device Manager under processor there are 4 that say unknown device i updated the bios on my motherboard and it didnt sort anything out what could be the problem
i have a
Q9550 quad core
Abit IP35 Pro XE
Powercolor HD 4870x2
Tuniq CPU Cooler
800w tagan pcu
2x2gb ram 800mhz

I'm no expert but can't you right click\update driver, and point it to the MB or Vista DVD.

chuck in the mobo cd, thats solved some unknown devices for me in the past.

what are the unknown devices ?

its my processor its showing all 4 cores as unknown

Put the motherboard driver disc in and do a update drivers and search the disc.

it just says its upto date on vista

Um... try right click and uninstall all the cores, then reboot.

Does your bios report your cpu correctly? May need to update it to reconise it correctly, then windows will report it properly too.

Have you had a look in CPU-Z?

It might be as the above poster says, you need a different BIOS due a new stepping?

Was there a CPU in the board before the 9550?

3dmark says its pentium III
CPU-z Says its a Q9550
Bios has been updated to latest version
and no its the first cpu in board

im just so confused why its doing this

Does it work alright? (Benchmark ok, play games ok, etc?)

Do you have 4 cores show up in task manager?

Just built the same system today and I have the same issue in Vista 64 bit (4 unknown devices in device manager). I haven't checked device manager in XP.

In the sytem panel the processor reports as a Pentium III Xeon in XP and just as 2.84Ghz in Vista. I suspect it's a BIOS issue but I have BIOS 11 which the Abit site shows as the latest and as supporting the 9550.

Weird one.

The latest system is on 11 (the one linked). I should state that it's only the 9550 that has trouble reporting. I have another system with a 6600 in it and that reports OK.
