Unlocking Cores ?

Unfortunately, your CPU is a native dual core - not a locked-down quad core like some of the Athlon II and Phenom II model. So there is no extra cores available to unlock.

Sorry :(

Nah that's a good thing means I didn't buy the wrong mobo

Can you core unlock with a non core unlocking motherboard ?

What cpus can you potentially unlock ?

Huh??
Correct me if I'm wrong but this is an ATHLON II, the energy efficient ver which is basically a normal athlon II with lowered clock and tdp?

If it unlocked, it will become the 405e tri core or 605e quad no ?

Yup - quite right, nice chip.

Unfortunately not. Like all the other Athlon II X2 chips this is based on the Regor core which is a native dual core.

There is of course the Athlon II X3 chips that are based on a different core which is a quad core with a single core locked off - so these can unlock to quad core.

Also the Phenom II family, which uses different cores from the Athlon II - in this family both X2 and X3 have the ability to unlock cores.

It seems to just be the athlon II dual cores that got the short end of the stick here - no doubt to reduce manufacturing costs for AMD with the smaller die size.

I think the question hes asking is if he had indeed bought a possible unlockable cpu, would he have been able to unlock it with his present board which (i have no idea) would seem not to have the unlocking feature, obvious answer is no. So hes glad he didn't buy an unlockable cpu.

Surely I can find more if I search around.
The single core semprons can unlock as well.

He has a 240e, which seems to be native dual core..

If I'm not mistaken, I think all Asus boards with Southbridge 710 and above would have core unlock feature in bios.

Though it was until the release of 8xx chipset board that Asus emphasis the "Core unlocker" feature, despite loads of their previous board already can unclock cores.

But the M4N68T doesn't seem to have the appropriate Southbridge chip for unlocking cores, so most likely it won't be able to do it.
