Unpacking / extracting from an installer?

You used to be able to unpack .exe installer by doing the following:

Go to Run --> type:
"F:\General things\Patches\Farcry\Patches\64 content\Farcry 64 extra content.exe" /a

How do you do this now because that doesn't work?
I need to be able to unpack this so I have a folder of all the files located in it :confused:

winrar or 7zip will unzip a majority of setup files. but no guarantees - depends on how the .exe is packaged.

....like i say, some .exes cannot be unpackaged by the end user.

i'd be surprised if something else can do it if winrar/7zip cannot.....

I have done it before when using Windows Installer 3.1
Only problem is, that was ages ago & its now old meaning I have a newer version on my system. I'm just wondering if there is another way. :confused:

might be "msiexec 'path' /a"

as marc has said, 7zip should be able to do it if its expandable
