That’s some interesting plumbing and I’d be pretty certain that’s the reason for the smell.
It should have a drop and the U-Bend should be below all of the inlets.

thanks - I'd never heard of one of those ... for my picture ... concern - yes - is kitchen waste getting into and sitting in the washing machine drain tube.My own sink has a U-bend before a length of pipe at the end of which my washing machine is connected to by another length of pipe with a self-sealing waste valve (some plumbers call them a "fanny trap") near the machine.
