Unpleasant smell when washing machine starts and clears the drain pipe.

post a picture ? - see earlier thread :

haven't yet got round to fixing ours ... and increasing loop height to see if less waste water gets pushed back into washer evac tube.(left)
No wonder it smells where's the u bend? Who plumbed that in?

Ideally your washing machine should have a drop, if not then a U-bend. The sink should also have it's own U-bend.

My own sink has a U-bend before a length of pipe at the end of which my washing machine is connected to by another length of pipe with a self-sealing waste valve (some plumbers call them a "fanny trap") near the machine.

I personally think you need to sort your plumbing out before doing any maintenance washes, or the problem will continue to repeat itself. Then give your machine a good cleaning with bleach.

I've no idea how much a cap or cupful is in ml. But I put a quick squeeze directly into the drum - not too much though, as you might end up with suds coming from your drawer like I did.:o:D

thanks - I'd never heard of one of those ... for my picture ... concern - yes - is kitchen waste getting into and sitting in the washing machine drain tube.

Been getting some awful sewage smells coming from my washing machine when drain. Any ideas what could be causing it?
