I need to remove a drive from a system that can't be switched off and was just wondering how safe this is.

I use HotSwap! quite often when I'm disconnecting/connecting drives via an eSATA caddy, so I figure I can just "eject" the secondary SATA drive and then unplug the internal molex power connector? The only difference I can see, is that instead of having a convenient power button on the caddy, in this instance i'd be pulling out the power directly.

It's an Asus P5N7A-VM if that matters!

Thanks! :D

Well on my P67-UD7 I can just plug in Sata devices. If you eject it from windows you should be ok.

Power wise I wouldnt like to answer but I suspect you will be ok. Just dont touch things you shouldnt while the machine is running.
