Majority of people just use a PC for Games, Web Browsing, Email, Word Processing, Printing - It can all be done on the PS3.
Yeah on Linux, now the majority of people use Windows and won't have a clue what to do on Linux.

60% of PS3 users don't even know about Blu-Ray let alone installing Linux, it would melt their brains.

Ok so the PC version will be better on a PC costing over 2x the price of a PS3 and a PC at the same price as the PS3 probably wont be as good. This thread isn't about which version of the UT3 is better as no one here knows! It was about Epic letting game developers using the UE3 engine to incorporate cross platform gaming, without charging you £50 and the price of Vista for the privilege of playing non PC gamers. Surely the more people you have playing a game it is better for you as you have a much bigger pool of gamers to play against?

Don't forget the price of a HDTV for the PS3, you can just about get a PC with a 8800GTS for 500 odd quid now if you custom build so it's not really twice the price.

Hey my mrs flicks between Win XP and Linux Mint no problems at all and shes a girl :p

It is a pity 360 not cross platform aswell as at least then you could have a choice but as you cannot use keyboard and mouse is a shame.

(The actual amount of PC buyers who wouldn't know how to build one is probably well in excess of 80%, but i think you get the point :D ).

It's still possible to get one that cheap though. :)

You have a disease, I think it is commonly called, "musthavethelastworditis" ;) , I have heard it can be terminal in some cases. I would definitely get it looked at.

Perhaps we can go to the Doctor together when I go to see him about my "savethechearleaderitis".

Nah, it's just called 'boring'.

Even if they somehow manage to get it so that PS3 players using a gamepad are on the same level playing field as PC users using mouse and keyboard, does anybody else think the standard is going to be a little high? i mean this isn't Resistance we're talking about here, Its Unreal Tournament, an established, extremely fast paced pc series that pc gamers have been playing for many years. The vast majority of people who play online are really damn good, might it be too much for the ps3 audience just starting?

Unreal Tournament III for PS3 scheduled for November, SIXAXIS and unlikely cross platform

Epic's VP Mark Rein has revealed some new information regarding the PS3 timed exclusive that is known as Unreal Tournament III. He confirmed that the game is on course for a November release and SIXAXIS functionality is definitely planned. Rein also questioned whether PS3 players want to play against PC gamers and commented that there would be issues and if such a feature was to be available, and if it was, it will not ship as standard.

quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“I’d say it’s unlikely…there’s no technical reason you can’t do it, there’s a lot of reasons why it might not make sense and that is the fact that on a PC we can release a patch five minutes after the last patch if we wanted to. PlayStation 3 we have to go through a fairly complex certing process…that’s not to say we’ll never have it, but I don’t believe we’re going to ship with it as a feature.

“The thing is, it’s hard to know if people really want it or not. Do you really want to play against PC players?” He then added that the different gameplay speeds of the console and PC versions would also be an issue.

That depends how long you keep your current pc as some do keep it years and to be truthful in 5 years p3 will look bad to what will be out then.
It will still have very decent and very playable games though, and I'm sure by then they will be getting the most out of the PS3 so games will look a lot better on it than they do now.

Graphically games are always going to look better on PC than on console because of the fast moving pace of the technology in PC's. I hope to move away from PC gaming for a while just because it costs too much money to keep upgrading - I spent over £2000 on my last desktop gaming rig and it could have easily escalated If I didn't get rid of it. (I'm actually and upgradeaholic and bought a laptop to go cold turkey - after immediatley upgrading the RAM and HDD it worked)

This doesn't mean that PC gaming is better though as some of the very best gameplay experiences I have had have been on consoles. The only games I truly prefer on PC are FPS. The rest, driving, sandbox, sports etc I prefer on console.

Theres nout wrong with GameSpy.
Iirc, they provide the gaming services for Nintendo's Wii & DS, and those are doing well.
Hatred of GameSpy is just an illogical reaction based upon age old problems.
Its now become popular to dislike them for either no reason at all other than its popular to (most common), or some pathetically simple reason that can be put down to luck (most claimed).
