Unreal Tournament 2004: modern alternatives?

I haven't played a computer game for best part of a decade. Just found my old Unreal Tournament 2004 disc - awesome game! If/when I manage to buy a modern GPU (only something like the 1030 or 1050), what are the equivalent modern 'esport' games that as a fun/slick as UT2004?
 
There is a resurrection of Unreal Tournament ongoing but its work in progress there is also Quake Champions - there isn't really anything out there though that relives the days of Unreal Tournament or Quake 3 or the later UT2K4, etc.
 
I still play UT3 black edition every so often. It still feels modern. The latest version is on pre alpha release and can be tested for free but I haven’t tried it yet.

However it's just not the same at UT2K4 of course the old days of UT99, Quake 3 etc. Its does however give you a fast paced arena shooter worth the play, it's also free at this time.

Quake Champions is a bit mehhh imo, best of playing Quake 3 or Quake Live. Doom is also a worthy play for MP, but I got bored of that really fast.
 
There was me thinking the current FPS esports games were fancy, improved versions of Quake 3 and UT2K4... You're suggesting these decade+ old titles haven't been bettered?

No, they have not. Unreal Tournament, Quake 3, COD2 and MOHAA are still rulers.

BF2 still has many players via BF2 Hub. Counter Strike - Global Offensive are very good and also (if you want a lot more of a sim game but not as sim as Arma) then try Squad - http://store.steampowered.com/app/393380/Squad/

Just because you don't like the current trend of FPS doesn't mean they are worse games.

I don't play that type of FPS so don't have answer to that. But what I said was in reply to some saying that that there's no better games after these 10 years. I could have read it wrong though and if they were to saying just about fast paced arena shooters in that past 10 years then it's probably right as I don't think there has been any really.

Since I don't like those sort of FPS i find BF1 more fun than them. As I said above, if you said there's no better fast paced arena shooter since then I would understand that but it's slightly hyperbole to say they haven't been bettered in general since then.
