When dealing with Epic, never believe any release date unless it is officially from them. Don't even listen to the publisher (Midway), that way you can't get let down. 
Epic have never actually given out a release date, its those silly publishers or 'industry insiders' who keep getting it wrong and making people feel let down.
I suppose it got the original fabricator traffic to his site (before it got owned by the bandwidth monsters!).
