Unreasonable request from work?

Because the company is going to force a Female colleague to share with a Male one!

If they are prepared to save costs by putting them in 2 to a room I see no reason why this wouldn't happen ? And why is it ok to force 2 blokes to share but not a bloke and a woman ?

To be honest I wouldn't want my work colleagues seeing me haul my arse into the shower in the mornings male or female.

See how long you last living like that... He's away from home, family & friends all of his home comforts have been removed from him, in way of compensation they want to give him £20 a night and stick him in the cheapest B&B / Hotel with a fat man, in addition i doubt the place will have internet or a TV worth watching.

Living away from home in hotels sucks, even staying in good hotels with a suit for a reasonable period sucks, it's a terrible way to exist.

This is why the company i work for compensates us appropriately.

Some people don't even have a bed to sleep in at night or money for any food. He will be working most of the time it's not like he'll be spending all day in the hotel. In this current recession you have to man up.

so?

give them your food and your house or shut up.

Some people have skills to trade, some valuable ones, push for all you can get for them.

He will be working most of the time

Not unless he works 17 hour shifts Monday to Friday.

Some silly replies about man up,have any of those replies spent a long time away from your home and family i guess not.

Some people's idea of 'manning up' seems to be to mumble "yes sir", then bend over, spread cheeks and invite deeper ramming. Very alpha.

when my bf has been sent to london to work, he has been given somethign like £35 a day for food, he didnt have to share a room, and the company even paid for stuff like putting his dogs in kennels etc.

I think yours sounds a bit stingy!

Agreed. There is a huge difference between man up and bend over...

The minimum I'd accept is my own hotel room but I think a guaranteed bonus would also be in order as the duration is so long.

Having to share a room away from home with a work mate never mind one you don't like for 100 nights +

I don't think so, The £20 sounds ok should see you right most nights.

If your company was stupid enough to place a bid for the work based on people sharing hotel rooms that is their problem not yours, You really do need to speak up about it. They may have placed the bid based on you having your own room but are trying to squeeze more profit out of it, Guess there is only one way to find out.

I went for a weeks training in Switzerland last year, I think we were given about £30-40 a night, overnight allowance i.e. compensation for being away not for using there to survive, travelling time paid from the time we left the house to the time we got to our hotel, our own rooms in a 4 star hotel. We just got given an advance to pay for hotel while there, the rest was for food/drink and travel in the country. We weren't told that we could only spend X amount on food each day, so just had to make the money last and put the receipts in at the end.

I would want compensation for being away from home as well as a food allowance, hire car and fuel paid for, and a private hotel room as a minumum.

To my mind this would depend a bit on the job and role - a lot of people working in HVAC should expect some travelling as part of the job, tho maybe his role not so much hard to say without more detail.

What's that got to do with anything?

He's doing his employer a favor not the other way round, the employer needs to see fit that the package on offer is suficent to make someone want to go and do the work.

At the very very least I would insist on my own room. There is no way a grown man should be expected to bunk up with a work mate. I wouldn't care what they said the repercussions are, simple answer is NO. Its possible they are trying there luck to save a bit on the hotel bill.
