Hi there, please can anyone help with this problem I'm having with my Sony W-Series mp3 player that I got for christmas. Basically as of yesterday it suddely wont charge via the USB charger it came with any longer.

I'm using windows 7 and it just says "Unrecognized USB device" everytime I plug it in but it worked perfectly before. I've looked online on google and they said about turning off yur PC and unplugging your power supply but that didnt work and they also said to try uninstall your "unrecognised device" in the device manager but that didnt work either.

I really think this has to be something to do with windows or usb software in windows because I really dont think its broken but then again I dont know much about this stuff so any help given would be much appretiated.

P.S. Also on google it said something about how your "USB Table" in the registry can become corrupt? but not sure how to fix that if thats true?

It's weird though because it wont charge at work or at home

Thanks in advance.

try using USB Deview uninstall anything thats listed to do with your sony device, then replug it an see if it will re-install its drivers correctly? I had a similar issue with my HTC One, and it turned out it was a corrupted usb driver

Have you tried it in another device, laptop etc?

Have you changed the cable?
Using USB 2 or 3?

No mate, it has a unique cable which comes with it, it can only be used with this mp3 player and this mp3 player can only be charged with this cable.

As for the second part of your question I dont know if its USB 2 or 3, how can you find out that?

Thanks in advance.

I've installed that program mate and I tried the uninstall feature but it hasnt seemed to make a difference so far. :(

Thanks for all your replies so far though!

Well just the PC at home and the PC at work but it does the same on both, I just cant understand it. It makes me thing its something wrong with the device like maybe it needs resetting or something, it doesn't make any sense for it to be broke though because its pretty knew and in great condition.

I feel like I've tried everything but still to no avail, do you guys reckon my mp3 player is broke?

If its not broke how can I get windows to detect it again? I'm really confused

Thanks a lot for your help so far.

this is odd, i have had very similar thing happen to me with my digital pen and also (printer lol) where ti wouldn't recognise drivers and show as unknown device or correct device but wouldn't update drivers.
Now i cannot say for sure this is the same problem but it does sound very similar, for me to fix my digital pen i had to un-install usb devices, reboot pc then during reboot it reinstalled the usb ports and then bingo worked fine after.
Dont know if that will help but good luck

I tried this just tonight mate, several times and still no success :( I'm thinking about emailing Sony customer services and Microsoft customer services for windows, surely one of them can come up with a solution?

What do you guys reckon though? Do you think windows is just having problems communicating with the device or do you think its the device thats messed in?

Thanks in advance.

I just found this video on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3Jz5cBeaFg

Which then sent me to the website:

http://esupport.sony.com/

And I downloaded the latest firlmware:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?mdl=NWZW273BLK&upd_id=9057&os_group_id=6

And then when I tried to install it windows just said "windows has detected that your device already has the latest firmware installed" but still in the task manager and in device manager it just says unknown device and I cant access it or charge it.

Sweet baby jesus!! I've fixed it! woohoo! I just stuck a pin in the bottom of the mp3 player that says reset and it reset it back to default settings and now its charging and my PC recognises again, thats so weird! I dont know what caused this problem in the first place but now it seems to be fixed, thanks for all your help!

:D;):):eek::D;)
