Unrecord: Most photorealistic graphics to date ?

I’ll be honest I’m wondering if that’s real footage that has been spliced with some CGI elements.

Making photorealistic games is expensive and I struggle to believe that a no name indie studio is going to pull it off on their first try even if they are using quixel assets for everything.

This is a level of realism that offline render engine struggle to reach let alone a real time one. Soo I think you should temper your expectations.

Unreal Engine 5.x is completely capable of those visuals right now, the Epic UE store has map assets that are exactly that right now too that devs can simply download and start building games with!

Looks like a combination of Photogrammetry and UE5 Nanite in action, definitely a workflow that's good enough for production. Looks authentic combined with the fluid camera and character animation, however I doubt we'd see this outside of a single player experience.

100% photogrammetry i.e. the textures are taken from photographs of the real world rather than created from scratch. That is not a criticism, it works really well, I expect we'll see much more of this technique in games in the coming years.

The lighting is very good but not quite 100% photorealistic.

Where it falls down (in that video at least) are the textures and movements used for the player's hands and gun. But that's something they can easily improve on.

If there are decent reviews regarding the gameplay I'll certainly be purchasing this, looks fun.

I wonder what the GPU requirements will be like though?

It is quite "easy" to produce something like that with photogrammetry and replicating the original lighting conditions - the problem is doing that all the time - a slight change in the lighting and it suddenly looks like a game again, etc.

Assetto Corsa is capable of that now, it's all about the colour grading and AO. There have been new maps made lately that look the same in that department

This game looks more realsitic due to the camera work.

Yep as mentioned about, plenty of new maps have been made for Assetto that looks very much the same. You can create them yourself with camera projection. Basically turn a 2D image into 3D with Fspy.

You can also take these type of things too: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/southbank-undercroft-skatepark-add37d5dc6a2456eb0d7607c6fbd884d

This has been implemented into Assetto too haha

The AC tracks i have seen using photogrammetry look awful due to them using satellite imagery like MSFS. Everything looks melted. Whereas this looks amazing as it’s not using overhead satellite data (presumably ?).

Have you got any links to ones that actually look good ?

Something which makes a huge difference is the "continuousness" between assets - to really hit the photorealistic bar you need to "sculpture" the entire environment really something like they attempted with RAGE where texture detail flows between objects - dropping in pre-build assets can create a high quality visual look but still look just like a game. Then as above the lighting, colour grading/tone mapping and AO make a huge difference.

One thing which is often overlooked as well is how much difference "trim" can make (or other doodads), though again not as good as having an environment where surface detail flows and is unique.

I am talking about modded maps using actual 3d models and photogrammetry, eg this one has been added recently: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/southbank-undercroft-skatepark-add37d5dc6a2456eb0d7607c6fbd884d

All be it it's only a small one, but what can be done with the colour grading and visuals in a game from 2014 (all by modders) is very impressive.

This is a completely overhauled Nords, with 8k textures and 3D trees
