Hello,

I have a 1.5TB AV-GP Western Digital that I have run through Speedfan and the SMART test is telling me that there is a problem with "unrecoverable sector count".

My other two disks (Samsung F4s) are coming out as fine and I have tried using the AV-GP by putting some none vital data on it and to be honest it seems fine.

1. What is an unrecoverable sector count?
2. Is it serious and/or correctable?
3. Could Speedfan be wrong? What other programs could I use to double check the fault?

Thanks

Thanks for that - I downloaded that program and used it to completely erase the drive using the WRITE ZEROS TO DRIVE OPTION.

I then initialised/formatted the drive back to NTFS using Windows 7.

I then did a full check disk in Windows 7 with both options ticked (no problems found).

I then did a QUICK TEST with Lifeguard again and it reported no problems.

Given that both WD's program and Windows itself are reporting no problems, should I assume that the disk is fine?

If so, what is it about Speedfan that keeps reporting 0 fitness with this drive - it is still reporting this, despite the above.

Thanks
