Unremoveable file

I cancelled a download mid flow and Vista went wibble. The partial file remained on the desktop and is entirely untouchable. I can call up it's properties, but if I try to move or delete it it simply goes into the 'calculating time remaining' dialogue and stays there - I left if for about 3 hours and it was still going.

I tried deleting it through explorer. I tried via the Dos Box. I tried safe mode and that did the same. Eventually I got rid of it by booting into "safe mode with command prompt" and used the del command.

Anyone else come across this or know a work around? It seems to be a repeatable event, but only seems to happen with longer filenames.

Hallelujah! Works exactly as advertised!

Do you know of anything similar that kills processes in Task Manager that won't die? Not had it for a while, but really used to wind me up.

This still hasn't been fixed in windows vista?! I thought this was going to be another classic windows xp undeleteable file thread, but I'm suprised microsoft still hasn't done anything about it.

You can't go wrong with unlocker, highly satisfying giving the finger to any arsey dialog box that tries to stop you :D
