"Unrequited love. It's fantastic, 'cause it never has to change, it never has to grow up and it never has to die!"
Vince Tyler, Queer as Folk

What are peoples views on that statement?

I think it means he realises no-one loves a gayer.

I actually get what is meant. I've not had the kind of crush that makes your head spin for ages. I've only had feelings that strongly about someone I've already been with. I'm kinda jealous of people that do get that from someone they aren't with, because seeing them makes your day.

That type of love itself probably hasn't got to change in terms of mankind's existance. But in terms of finding somebody and settling down with them, then it has to end otherwise your relationship would be awful....

I'm pretty sure that the feelings cease to be unrequited as soon as you actually get with someone, and if they didn't the relationship wouldn't last all that long...

Why is it fantastic because it never changes? There are plenty of bad things that never change. It doesn't make them fantastic.
I'm not saying unrequited love is always bad, but that quote makes no sense.

ie

There shouldn't be a "'cause" in the quote.

Correct - "Unrequited love. It's fantastic, it never has to change".
Incorrect - "Unrequited love. It's fantastic 'cause it never has to change".

Saying it never has to change doesn't explain why it's fantastic.

Its BS. It basically says that its better to die lonely than risk rejection.

It's a thought tool, designed to make people examine love. It questions just what love is by illustrating a situation whereby it is not returned, then contrasts the possibilities contained within this 'love' against the love that we are familiar with...

It is almost sarcastic and cynical in nature, by portraying what can be considered to be an antithesis of traditional love as 'perfect' it higlights the negative aspects of tradition love.

Hehe, I did use google ;)

Google says:

Unrequited love is love that is not reciprocated, even though reciprocation is desired. This can lead to feelings such as depression, anxiety, and mood swings such as swift changes between depression and euphoria. The experience of being in unrequited love is often one of limerence.

Wikipedia isn't working for some reason  So I can't find out more from there.

It's when you love someone but they don't feel the same.

Thank you seek, makes much more sense than google's answer :)

I didn't understand what it meant...
Which is why you looked it up, no?

Do you mean you didn't know the bit you looked up, so you looked it up and didn't understand the look-up? :D

lol :p

I didn't understand what Stupp meant by unrequited love, so looked it up quickly on google. Google gave me a definition, which I didn't understand too well, so I thought I'd ask on here for a better, more simpler description :)
Which seek then provided :)

Stop spamming now!

It makes no difference wether they know or not. It's when you have feelings of love but they don't.
