What an amazing civilised place, sound like there are some loving warm beautiful people there.... what is wrong with people????

They live in absolute poverty and that is their way to survive, I'm not excusing their behavior but that's how some of them live, like in many other poverty stricken places.

Barra de Guaratiba is a long way away as you noted. Kinda stops you from doing anything in Rio at night because you have a 3 hour journey home!!
