Well you are probably thinking it's another one of those moaning about bands, well, it isn't!

I'm actually wondering who else here has a keen interest in a lot of the smaller unknown bands, or ones that are unsigned.
I'm personally incredibly interested, I think thing such as BBC Introducing are fantastic. Often try to organise a lot of the bands to come and play in my town at the gigs that we hold.

Unknown or Unsigned - sortof!

Here's a little list of what I'm currently really into;

Bombay Bicycle Club - Just released an album, turning into a huge band now.

Little Comets - BBC Introducing band, have just recently been signed by Columbia Records, having them down in Devon soon. www.myspace.com/littlecometsmusic

The Elephants - Great band, another BBC Introducing band, really good live, have hosted them in Devon before and will be again soon. www.myspace.com/fullyelephants

The Muscle Club - Another up and coming band from Cardiff, great sound to them, energetic live, recently had them down in Devon for a gig, were fantastic, soloing while crowd surfing for them was quite exciting I think! www.myspace.com/themuscleclub

The X-Certs - Not really a new band, they have been around since 2001, just seem a bit 'static'. Really enjoy this band, they have a mix of sounds on different tracks and it's great. www.myspace.com/thexcerts

Passion Pit - Another great band that i'm really enjoying at the moment, however it won't be to a lot of peoples tastes!

Golden Silvers - A really sortof heavily 80s influenced band, great sound, they have no guitarist, it's all about the keys n' bass!

Skint and Demoralized - Really like this bands singer, it sort of reminds me a bit of Hard-Fi and The Streets, won't be to a lot of peoples tastes either.

Spose you can add Friendly Fires & White Lies to this list, but they're already considered rather huge!

Tons more!

So, OcUK, what recent new talent have you found that you'd like to share?

I don't think Passion Pit are unsigned - picked up there EP and Album in HMV a few weeks back

Rich

Yeah they are signed to Columbia I think.

But they are rather unknown, sorry, i'll make that more clear in the OP.

What did you think of them anyway?

a lot of the stuff down here really ranges, here's a few;

www.myspace.com/samdowden - Acoustic Act - Quite nice.
www.myspace.com/loadclickshoot - Klaxons Meets Foals load of noise, they are signed.
www.myspace.com/pickpocketsandskyrockets - Also signed.
www.myspace.com/theunderclassstrife - Probably my favourite, a bit mod-like.
www.myspace.com/severezero - Punk Rock.
www.myspace.com/cablesound - Good band, dimmed down and not done a lot recently.
www.myspace.com/prettyjacks - Currently on a break

A bit of an insight to the local scene around here, there are a lot more, but those are probably the widest range of them - some I don't like, and I know there are people that hate them.

But as you can see - the metal scene and all that jazz around here isn't great - the people of Devon don't seem to be into it much!

I haven't heard much from them recently but was into Kolo about a year or so ago. They're an indie band from Exeter so went to see them when I lived that way.

Think they're on myspace.com/koloband but can't check if that's correct or not here at work.

Yeah I've heard of them - although they don't seem to be doing much recently, just gone stale like a lot of bands and don't post any updates or events or anything!

I like both of the above.

I think they are sortof in the same field as people like Razorlight and Franz Ferdinand for me, I can listen to them, but only for a certain amount of time, and then take a break from it.

I'm based in Barnstaple, North Devon.

www.myspace.com/generatorpromotions is what i'm a part of. Hosted quite a lot of nights that have been succesful, posters and information and all that jazz up on there!

I'll check you out :), and pop it off to the other guys aswell to see if their keen. I warn you though, the other guy is rather perticular on what he likes to play, and it's gotta pull in the crowd!

I like it - however I don't know if it suits the scene in Barnstaple.

However, we also run some gigs up in London in Stockwell, and I know our friend that organises them likes the sort of music you are producing, some of it has a nice Ska feel to it also - which i'm always a fan of!

Have you heard of a band Random Hand? Sortof Ska/Punk/Rock. I'd love to hear a brass section within your band!

Just unfortunate that it isn't to the taste of the scene around here and to what we usually put on - I'll still send them across and see if we can setup a night, there's a few local bands around here that you'd suit a night with :)

I play in a band:

The Fall, The Rise - www.myspace.com/thefalltherise

...we have 2 new songs on there too!!

I've stumbled across that before, it's a bit too much for my liking personally :), but I know a fair few people that are really into it!

And yeah - Crystal Castles have sortof hit mainstream within certain 'groups'. Just I don't think they've been in the charts, so it's not a name everyone knows.

I have heard both Boxer Rebellion and Martin Harley band, both are great!

I also saw Martin Harley Band at a recent festival I was at, and the bass player looks exactly like Rick Astley!

I listen to a podcast called Bands Under the Radar by an American lady named Kami Knake. It features about 30 or so songs when it comes out, with most of them being unknown artists. Some of the music is excellent.

I'll look for this and check it out - any recognizeable ones that are now out there that have been on?

Cheers.

Love them, I think I came across them on Pitchfork or when thumbing through NME, can't remember which. Love the sound - reminds me slightly of the Animal Collective, although side by side they are worlds apart, they have there similarities.

Rich

Goodman - loving them myself also.

I saw them at Hard Rock Calling this year - they were great - if a bit static on stage! The singer is an quired taste I think, a lot of people I know don't like it.

Have you heard Golden Silvers?

EDIT: Yup Jegz, all true. Currently I am free every day apart from the weekend, and for the other people I play with, it's the opposite!

Been a fan of them for years (used to go by the name KiDDO) they've supported Little Man Tate (RIP) and also joined the Dirty Pretty Things in London after being nominated for the final 4 out of 1000s of bands for the Red Stripe music awards, which someone called Klaus Says Buy the Record won.

I've heard of these guys, not checked them out though, cheers.

And yeah, Klaus was also on Orange Unsigned Act.
