Thought I'd ask you guys as i'm still unsure as the steps to get a bike licence (yes i've read the sticky)

I'm 26 years old and I've had a car licence for 8 years. I confirmed with DVLA that I have the endorsement I need for a bike licence. I want to get an ~800cc bike so will need a full licence.

So is it correct that now I need to get:
Theory test, then
CBT then
DAS Part 1 then
DAS part 2

or is DAS part one the same as the CBT? Do I need to send anything off between steps or can I just smash it all in one week?

cheers

I could be wrong but some places would do a 5 day DAS which includes the CBT at the start.

To save hassle, it probably is easier just to get the theory test out of the way as the waiting list to take it can be a bit long. It's practically 2 years to sort your bike licence out within that.

Personally, I would do the CBT then get some road experience on a 125 for a few months and go for the DAS. If I did it all in a week, I would have failed for sure. Different people progress at different speeds, I guess.

2 years?! was hoping to sort it in 2 weeks! spoke to a guy from a training centre and he reckons that once I've done the theory I can do the CBT on a sunday, then 2/3 days doing the other parts...

Yeah, theory test is valid for only 2 years - same with the CBT once you've passed it. Once that has passed without achieving full licence, you'll have to do it again!

You don't need to have done the theory to do the CBT but if you're doing an intensive course with the test at the end then it makes sense to get it done. :)

I did my DAS over a 2 week period which was 2 days training then MOD1 then a days training then MOD2.
I already had my CBT from 13 months before but you can book & do it in a day as it's not a test it's Training.
As for the Hazard & perception bit I booked & done that before I booked my DAS.
Where are you based as my instructor was good & relatively cheap.

So...
Book & do your Theory & Hazard test - Practise online first.
Book & do your CBT - Should get in fairly quicky at a local CBT centre.
Book & do your DAS - MOD 1 & 2.

Then come join the cool kids. :D

Listerine meant that once you have your theroy test complete, you have a 2 year period that take the other tests before you would need to re-do the theroy.

How long it takes to pass all the tests is really all down to the individial, if you take to bike riding well, it shouldn't take to long.

As the others have said though, get your Theroy done and dusted first though so u can then just concentrate on the practical stuff. CBT is easy peasy, just by law it is needed before doing the other tests, it also helps the training instructors gauge where your skills are.

Ah I see, perfect. Was looking to do my licence in York, found this place which looks quite decent: http://www.ride-4-life.co.uk/
Sounds like it can take a while to get a theory test so I'll book that first, then do CBT and a few days intensive training.

That's it mate just book the earliest appointment you can get for T & H test & the same with CBT.
Once you have the T & H out the way & you have your CBT booked you can then ring the Instructor up for DAS & start booking in some time for lessons etc.

One thing to make sure is that the Instructor you pick takes you to the actual MOD 1 Test centre for a few run throughs, A lot of instructors don't bother & set up a few cones in a car park, This is Not the same as going to the penned in arena type area that you will do your MOD 1 on.
All instructors have access to the MOD 1 test area for praccy but a lot don't use it which I think is ****. So ask the instructor on the phone whether he uses cones in a car park or the Actual test arena.
Also when booking make sure he gives you a date for your MOD 1, Don't let them say they will book it after the lessons as this is **** just to get you to book with them.
A decent instructor will give you a date for your MOD 1 & will also tell you when a MOD 2 slot would be available although this is a bit hit & miss as others can take the slots.
Just make sure you get an instructor who talks dates rather than blag you into starting lessons with him & not being able to slot you in for a test because he works a full time job elsewhere or summit.

This sounds like the voice of experience. Noted - thank you!
