Unsure upgrade to AMD X2 or Intel

haha, so true. Companie pretty stingy when it comes to memory & GFX cards. I think certainly its useful to have companies make em as it saves u the hassle but less fun than making it. I just couldnt be bothered or rather have the time to assemble another system....but for value for money suppose i will have to. Which decent mobo's are out there for C2D? Is it woth goinh for the 6400 or 6600?

The 7800GTX is in about the same league as my X1800XT really. Ive just ran the test an dgot the following on a 3800 [email protected]

1440x900, no aa, soft shadows off Ansio 4x = 48 / 84 / 190

1440x900, 4x aa, soft shadows off Ansio 4x = 33 / 64 / 148

1440x900, no aa, soft shadows on Ansio 4x = 28 / 48 / 86

Feel the wrath of AMD Duel Core and ATI! (put on nuke proof coat!)
Interesting result geeza!

Pretty satisfying - nice to see AMD can still do it! :)

Was the x1800 a 512 or 256 version and was it clocked?

256mb version clocked at 700core 800mem under arctic cooling accelero 2. Even im suprised at the higher fps results like 190. I thought it was the cpu's job when not much graphics stuff was going on?

Fear isnt a duel core game though is it? But the results of the Intel was clocked at 3ghz anyway so they should be higher

I've found my C2D to be extremely laggy in Windows compared to my A64.

The start menu programs open instantly with the AMD, but takes a couple of secs on the C2D, and sometimes it can take up to 30 secs to get the contents of a folder to show.
The system just locks, then eventually reads the files.
No such problems with the AMD.

Its very annoying!
All diagnostics have found nothing wrong too.

Anyone else finding this on their C2D?

BTW. Its a E6600, DS3 and 2Gb OCZ PC6400

I've heard a couple (but only a couple compared to the tidal wave of happy C2D owners!) of reports saying that some users found the AMD dual cores better at dealing with more than 2 processed threads at a time and that windows was a little snappier! It doesn't make sense looking at performance figures so it would be anybodys guess as to what's causing it!

Hello, i'm new to the forum (1st post) in the process of 'upgrading' from FX62 to a QX6700, just reading about the 'lag' in windows...i've allways been an AMD fan and enjoyed quite a responsive system (still got a 3500+, 4200x2 & FX62) but reading different reviews the current C2D just wipes the floor and the up and coming FX74 still can't touch the QX6700.
I'm hoping this 'lag' is not a widespread problem!!!

It's probably more to do with the Windows installation than the CPU.

I run both my e6600's cores at 100% (folding) and i don't get any lag from opening windows/Start menu/whatever.

Nope, Mine opens everythings as close to instantly as could possibly be measured ;) . Miles faster at anything my [email protected] could ever do.
