So our garage door has broken and our landlord is getting it replaced. I didn't break it was just an age issue but I presume he will be replacing with a manual one again. So I'm tempted to offer to pay the extra towards to get an electric.

My real question is how much extra is it to have a remote controlled up and over? I'm looking at getting a bike within the next few months to free up the car for the other half and electric would be very handy.

Or is it possible to fit electric system afterwards and just buy a motor unit to open and close?

My parents have one, looking at how it works (electric up and over and not a roller) it looks straightforward to retrofit.

Therefore you can have a Google for kits I imagine.

I'm very sure that it is "several hundred" extra though so rules it out like you said

I wouldn't mind one actually for my motorcycle thinking about it.

Think ours was around £250, you have to budget for the bracket that fits the door too if it's an up and over. No need for a sparky it just plugs into a 13amp socket.
