Hi

does anyone know or heard any rumours that apple are going to update the mac mini range.... I'm so tempted to get one today as originally I was going to wait for leopard to come out; as I'm not short on the numbers of computers I can use and its taking an age for it to come out. But with the recent updates of mac books and mac book pros, I'm thinking it can't be too long now before they update the imacs and minis?

There's rumours they are going to get rid of it, or shift it up to a higher price point, as it steps on the toes of the apple tv a bit at the moment.

i dont understand why its steps on apple tvs teos? apple tv goes under the tv to play videos and music.... mac mini is a fully fledged computer.

Because the mini can do everything the apple tv can do and a hell of a lot more for not too much more cash. As it stands the apple tv is rather pointless, certainly over here.

Mac Mini only steps on the AppleTV's toes because AppleTV is over priced.

Definately, but unfortunately I think we will see a rise in the price of the mini rather than a significant drop in the price of the TV.

That would be interesting to see, they would have to improve the spec significantly because Apple has a tendancy to up their spec's and keep the price the same. Also if they are killing the 17" iMac and pricing the 20" at the old 17" price then it would not make sence that the Mac Mini would get an update and cost more. Also I think the Mac Mini's are still too expensive for what they are. They pull people into Apple, so perhapse they could be a loss leader. (I doubt that would work but its a thought)

It would be nice if they bumped the spec but they can't really go anywhere near the spec of an iMac and the only other option places it close to the MacBook.

I think they will axe it, but I could be wrong :)

I think Apple make very minimal profits on the TV, something like 20% gross (I can't remember where I saw this, but it was today) in the hope that people will use it buy stuff from itunes.

imo they have a problem with product distinction all across their line at the moment, and is why the macbooks don't have santa rosa too.

The fact that it still has not got Core2Duo after all this time makes it look like they're going to disown it.

I agree, perhapse we will see some kind of hardware updates next week? Who knows, I think apple should deffinatly keep the Mac Mini as its their way into the PC market. People want a fast, compact system which they can use with ease or a system as first foot into the Apple market, its a low risk option your not left with a whole load of stuff which youu dont need just a small box.

Personally I expect them to drop the mini and the base iMac and introduce something similar in spec to the iMac but base unit only. The new unit could still be relatively cheap, but by putting it into a slightly larger form factor they would be removing any confusion with the TV thing.

I've got 2 minis and I think they're great, it will be a shame if they do go.

It would be nice if they dropped the mini and released the new iMac as a fully customisable option.

If they could somehow offer the iMac as a standard base unit, with the chance to pop in your own hard drive, and RAM then it'd sell loads!!

Maybe they will.. know whos, WWDC awaits
