Hi, I have a 13 year old system that still works but struggles. Currently I have:

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

1 x Samsung 2TB SSD
1 x DVD
4 x SATA full size drives, can get rid of one in need
650 W Power Supply
Full size ATX Case
Viseo 230Ws (1920x1080@60Hz) 1024MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series
Wireless Keyboard and mouse working well
Monitor Packhard Bell 1920 x 1080

I do not mine Bitcoins or do any Gaming but do have a lot of graphics, pictures and movies.

Would be grateful for suggestions on upgrading:
Full size ATX MB
CPU (With cooling if not integral)
Graphic card if not built into MB
RAM
Monitor in need, although currently working fine
Anything else you can think of

PC is sited nest to router so WiFi not required

Budget is always a consideration but would like something decent.

All contributions gratefully received

AMD 7900 non X, has integrated GPU and also has a heatsink and fan supplied with it, its only 65w but very powerful and would be an easy upgrade from your current system, they are cheap too at the moment, AMD keep dropping the price on them. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am5-processor-retail-cp-3du-am.html

As for Motherboard, take your pick, anything X670E, X670 or even B650 will all easily handle that CPU, something like this, which also has integrated WiFi, Display port and HDMI port: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...ocket-am5-ddr5-atx-motherboard-mb-372-ms.html bare in mind this board only has 4 sata ports, most people with this sort of system are using nvme drives now, however, have a look through them, most of them do only have 4 SATA ports though at a quick glance.

As for Ram you will need DDR5, again a good time to buy it as its dropped in price massively, to avoid any possible issues, EXPO ram is recommended on AMD systems, and anything really 5600mhz upwards would be fine: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/king...r5-pc5-44800c36-5600mhz-dual-c-my-29s-ks.html

Can you elaborate? What exactly do you do with these things? For example: do you do image and photo editing? Alternatively, do you just mean that you look at / watch them?

Budget is always a consideration but would like something decent.

Can you give us a ballpark? A £500 system is very different to a £1000 system.

By "decent", what do you mean? What does a decent PC look/act like?

I assume the current case and motherboard are not proprietary? The reason I mention that, is because your monitor is Packard Bell and if your case is too, it might not work with the new parts.

Thanks for response Tetras, much appreciated.

Yes Photo and video editing, multi tasking on both At moment I start compiling a video and everything else stops.
Budget under £ 750 preferable, nearer £500 or less if possible, excluding monitor
Decent to me is a system that can be updated a bit in the future, such as more RAM if needed, will run Win 11 and future releases, and is not totally proprietary, such as Packard Bell.
The monitor I was given by a friend who destroyed his Packard Bell PC
My ATX case was bought separately when I bought the other individual components
My current MB is an ABIT, worked well at the time but with new software and OS it is showing its age

Thanks again

For max budget, then I would buy:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £706.92 (includes delivery: £7.99)

Use of stock cooler assumed.

For lower-end of budget, then I would buy:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £387.97 (includes delivery: £7.99)

Use of stock cooler assumed.

Both systems support Windows 11.

You can upgrade the RAM in the AMD system, but they're not very happy with 128GB right now. Future CPUs or BIOS updates might improve this and AMD have said they'll support AM5 at least through 2025.

The Intel system, memory upgrade is no problem (might have to run it a bit slower for 4 sticks), with the CPU: you can upgrade to a 13th gen CPU and possibly the raptor lake refresh due in October.

Review of Ryzen 7 7700 here:

The Ryzen 9 7900 non-X mentioned above got great reviews for how efficient it is, like this one and it also includes a cooler (wraith prism).

This review of the 13400F (don't buy the F, no IGP) includes benchmarks for Adobe software (scroll down in the linked page), encoding and other productivity stuff:

If the psu is 13 years old as well I would be replacing that. If it is'nt the same age as the rest of the system how old is it and what make and model is it?

That is fantastically quick response and so detailed. Thank you both very much

The PSU is 13 years old and I think your suggestion to upgrade that is good advice, any suggestions on that please

Would you please expand on ~"Use of stock cooler assumed."

I really am blown away, thanks again
